Pressure relief in the oil and gas industry

Pressure relief in the oil and gas industry It is not without reason that rupture discs have their origin in the oil and gas industry: various parts of the plant are protected by rupture discs from unwanted overpressure and vacuum. They can be used as the sole pressure protection, as secondary protection in addition to a safety valve or in front of a safety valve.   The biggest advantages for you as an operator: REMBE® rupture discs always clear the entire cross section, thus allowing the fastest possible pressure relief. In addition, they are absolutely leak-tight (zero leakage) and fail safe - your most important element for plant safety.

High pressure rupture disc HPRD

Pressure relief at high pressures

Various production processes require pressures of several hundred or thousand bar. Autoclaves / reactors and associated compressors are two of many components that must withstand these pressures.

Safety equipment for high pressure systems is not just intended to protect against unacceptable overpressure, but also does not restrict or impede normal operation in any way.
More precisely: no premature triggering, minimal servicing and maintenance costs or none at all, as well as a simple installation.

REMBE® offers the ideal pressure relief for precisely these requirements: the HPRD high-pressure rupture disc for pressures up to 5000 bar

The specially developed design of the rupture disc makes it particularly durable: Unlike other products, the HPRD is not exposed to any bending forces at the weld seam of the rupture disc, thus avoiding fatigue of the weld.

Due to the materials used and the unique design, the HPRD is particularly resistant to corrosion and allows burst tolerances of just +/- 3% and better, depending on the specified burst pressure. Additionally, the rupture disc can be supplied with your desired connection option.

For you as an operator this means

  • Less down time, since the rupture disc need to be exchanged less frequently
  • Faster process restart due to the maintenance-friendly characteristics of the HPRD
  • No production loss during plant operation under very high load, thanks to tight burst tolerances
  • No additional costs when changing to the HPRD rupture disc: we supply the rupture disc with the connection you desire

For you as a plant manufacturer or a licensor that means

  • Safe, low-maintenance and long-lasting pressure protection as an additional sales argument
  • You are working together with the leading German companies in the industry - this is evidence of safety-consciousness and expertise
  • Increased customer satisfaction: No customer complaints or uncertainties on regarding the rather difficult topic of pressure relief

The KUB® is the only rupture disc to be manufactured using Euler's critical load formula to determine the burst pressure, creating the most robust, high-performance rupture disc available. Unlike other rupture disc solutions where a weak point is created in the metal, the KUB® is a unique, highly engineered solution, benefiting from a series of buckling pins which accurately collapse for reliable, full bore, opening. As there is no specific weak point on the rupture disc, the KUB® is an extremely robust solution, almost immune to damage by incorrect handling, improper installation or even being dropped! This maximises the lifespan of the disc and minimises long-term investment by lowering ongoing replacement costs. The KUB® features a two-layer design, with the smooth, unblemished surface of the sealing membrane facing the process minimising the possibility of damage due to corrosion.

Boasting a 98% operating ratio, the KUB® is not subject to fatigue even at higher operating pressures* and in the most demanding of process conditions in vapour, gas, liquid or two-phase applications. Unlike many other reverse acting discs, the unique construction of the KUB® makes it fully compatible with liquid-only applications, maximising installation points which can benefit from this rupture disc, simplifying customers' installation, maintenance and purchasing routines.

Inspect and reinstall with ease

Simple to install, the KUB® is also extremely easy to remove and reinstall during routine cleaning or maintenance checks without concerns of damaging the disc. Installed into an IG-KUB® Holder, the KUB® is a torque-independent design which uses a leak-tight, metal-on-metal seal, which allows the rupture disc to be reinstalled and used safely after inspection. REMBE®'s torque independent designs are resistant to damage caused during installation which increases the ability to get the process back up and running as quickly as possible without concerns that the burst pressure may have been affected. With no special installation tools required, the KUB® provides fast, simple installation with accurate pressure relief for minimal downtime.

With one of the widest burst pressure and size ranges for a reverse acting rupture disc (20 mm to 800 mm) the KUB® is the ideal solution for a wide range of challenging industrial processes. The broad  pressure range allows many different processes to be equipped with just this one type of rupture disc. Only one holder system is required for all REMBE® reverse acting rupture discs. If the process conditions change in future, e.g. the burst pressure, only the rupture disc needs to be replaced.

Used together with REMBE®'s reusable NIMU detection system for a full rupture disc assembly, ensuring reliable notification in the event of disc burst.

Extend safety valve lifespan with the KUB®

Suitable for full vacuum and back pressure resistant, the KUB® with its non-fragmenting design can be installed upstream of a safety valve to isolate the valve from the process. When used in combination, the KUB® will ensure the best possible condition of the safety valve, significantly extending service intervals and overall life of the valve while maximising return on investment. The leak-tight design prevents emissions and the associated costs whilst protecting the safety valve from corrosive, aggressive or adhesive media allowing for the use of safety valves in more cost-effective materials.

The special KUB® V series rupture disc allows for in-situ testing of the safety valve. See KUB® V for more information.

Q-BOX - Cost-effective indoor explosion venting for dust explosions

The Q-Box is designed for plant components with low rigidity and large explosion venting areas. The rectangular connection complements the dimensions of standard explosion vents thus allowing it to be retrofitted to existing indoor and outdoor equipment.

Flameless venting Q-Box
Flameless venting Q-Box

Your competitive advantages

  • Process-optimised plant layout
  • No external maintenance costs

The sanitary cover protects the Q-Box against dust from outside sources.

The Q-Box guarantees safe explosion venting in working areas. Like the Q-Rohr®, the flame gases are instantly extinguished inside the Q-Box by efficient cooling.

Your advantages

  • Flexible use of the Q-Box permits process-efficient plant design.
  • Reduces noise levels.
  • Perfect protection of the surrounding area. Neither heat, dusts nor a dangerous pressure wave emerge from the vessel – everything stays in the Q-Box.
  • Cost-effective alternative to venting ducts: No running costs for venting ducts and external maintenance, a visual inspection is sufficient.
  • Integrated signalling unit for reliable monitoring.
  • Flexible solution for indoor and outdoor use.
  • Simple retrofitting to existing explosion vent installations.
  • Reduced downtime: Access to the protected plant does not require a safety interlock (LOTO).
